Troy Parrott arrives in Seville on Thursday for his medical after signing a deal reportedly worth €16 million with an additional €4 million in add-ons. The 24-year-old striker will sign a five-year contract with Real Betis Balompié, which will compete in the Champions League qualifiers.
Connection with Patrick O’Connell
Parrott’s move comes two weeks after a Betis delegation visited the home of Patrick O’Connell, known in Spain as “Don Patricio”, who led Betis to its only La Liga title in 1935. The visit, headed by chief executive Ramón Alarcón and club legend Rafael Gordillo, coincided with a pre-season friendly against Arsenal in Dublin. O’Connell, born in 1887, managed Betis from 1932, taking them out of the second division and winning the championship with a 5-0 victory over Racing Santander on the final day.
Parrott’s Career
The former Belvedere youth moved to Tottenham Hotspur as a teenager and made his Premier League debut under José Mourinho. After a series of difficult loan spells, he found his footing in the Eredivisie with Excelsior and AZ, where he scored 30 goals in the 2025-26 campaign and helped the club win the Dutch Cup. West Ham also pursued him before Betis took the front of the queue. The signing offers Parrott the chance to play in La Liga and potentially in the Champions League under Manuel Pellegrini.
Future at Betis
Parrott is not expected to emulate O’Connell’s achievement as a manager, but his arrival marks the start of a new chapter for the club. The Dublin connection, which has been part of Betis’s identity for almost a century, is revived with the signing of a player who also began his journey in the Irish city.
Parrott will join Real Betis in the 2026-27 season, signing a five-year contract.
