LaLiga EA Sports will start the weekend of August 15 and 16, according to the arbitration resolution to which LaLiga and the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) have submitted. However, this start, wanted by the patronal and not by the players' union, will have exceptions, as not all teams will start the championship on the same date. In this way, Real Betis Balompié and Sevilla FC already know when they will start their projects, led by Manuel Pellegrini, the sixth consecutive in the case of the Engineer, and Luis García Plaza, who will start their preseason on July 7 and 4-5, respectively. Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, explained that situations could arise that would force the postponement of some matches in the first round of the tournament: "The first day of the first round, those teams that have players, we will see the number, in semifinals or finals of those competitions, in this case the World Cup, will play in the last week of August between week. The rest of the teams will play. It does not make sense for teams whose players have been eliminated in the group stage not to start on August 14 because it would fulfill a norm that may be established: 21 days of vacation, 21 days of preseason for those teams with those players". The president of the Spanish championship defends that everything is determined by the World Cup that starts on June 11 and ends on July 19, but that not all teams will be affected in the same way. In the case of Betis, it could have four World Cup players in the semifinals or more, and in the case of Sevilla, two, both with Switzerland: "Statistically, it is clear that FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will probably not play that weekend of August 16, and Athletic Club has many players with the Spanish national team and we hope they will be in the semifinals or final at least. Other clubs can start. At least between 6-7 matches will be played that weekend".
