Captain Diego Llorente has outlined the requirements for Real Betis Balompié following a hard-fought victory over Valencia. The Verdiblancos won 0-1 at Mestalla on Tuesday with a late goal from Pablo García, securing their second consecutive La Liga win. Manuel Pellegrini's side now sits second in the table, with a perfect 6 points from 2 games and a +2 goal difference having scored twice without conceding.
The match was a challenge from the first whistle. Real Betis Balompié faced a Valencia side that had not started the season well, but at a historically difficult ground. The team refused to speculate and maintained a solid attitude throughout. The defense featured four new faces.
The improvement came in the second half. Betis managed the pace of the game better and the substitutions brought fresh energy when it was most needed. The winning goal arrived in the final stages, scored by Pablo García, capping off a very complete performance. "Yes, very hard-earned. We knew they hadn't had a good start, that it was a difficult ground, but we couldn't speculate," stated Diego Llorente in an interview with DAZN.
Diego Llorente, the Madrid-born centre-back who captained the side, was clear about the requirements for the coming months. With a packed schedule across multiple competitions, the availability of the entire squad is key. The player highlighted that both the starters and those who came off the bench performed at a good level.
"It's the Betis we need this year, with so many competitions; everyone has to be ready when their turn comes," declared Llorente. This philosophy was already visible in the lineup against Valencia and will be key to maintaining performance. The physical condition of the whole group is optimal, an encouraging sign for a long season. Fans can follow the team's progress on our stats page.
The start to the season could not be better. After defeating Real Sociedad last Friday at La Cartuja, the triumph at Mestalla solidifies a perfect winning record. The team has a record of 2 wins, 0 draws, and 0 losses, placing them second in the table. Their next fixture is an away trip to face Levante, who currently sit 17th, on August 29th.
This positive context reinforces the message from the dressing room. Defensive solidity, with zero goals conceded, and effectiveness in decisive moments are signs of an ambitious team. The squad is proving it can compete at the highest level, managing difficult games without being reckless in defense or attack. To check the detailed standings, visit our league table section.
The victory builds confidence ahead of the imminent clash with Levante. The team will travel in high spirits, but aware that each match is a new challenge. The need for rotation mentioned by Llorente will likely be reflected in the lineup, taking advantage of the good form of the entire squad.
The immediate objective is to maintain the positive streak and secure the three points on offer. With a tight schedule, every decision by Manuel Pellegrini will be important to manage efforts.
