Borja Iglesias will be unavailable for Celta de Vigo in their LaLiga EA Sports match against Real Betis Balompié this Sunday. The former Betis striker is one of five injury absentees confirmed by Celta's manager, Claudio Giráldez, for the tenth round of the competition.
The match at Balaídos comes during a congested schedule for both sides, following midweek European commitments. Real Betis, who sit fourth in the table with 19 points, arrive after a Champions League win over Feyenoord (1-0) and aim to bounce back from their league defeat to Barcelona (2-5). Celta, in ninth place, will look to extend their six-match unbeaten run in the domestic league after beating Celtic in the Europa League. The sky-blue side has recorded 10 goal minutes across their last three league matches.
Claudio Giráldez will only have 22 players available to face Betis. Alongside Borja Iglesias, Miguel Román, Álvaro Núñez, Carl Starfelt and Jones El-Abdellaoui are also out injured. The Galician manager "cited the 22 available footballers", leaving out the academy players Milla and Ángel Arcos. This situation forces the team to restructure their attack, where Pablo Durán and Troy Parrott will take on greater responsibility.
Betis's squad situation
Manuel Pellegrini also faces selection headaches. Midfielder Facundo Bernal is suspended following his red card against Barcelona and will serve a four-match ban. These absences are compounded by the injuries to Junior Firpo and Cucho Hernández, who are also unavailable. The Chilean coach is expected to rotate his starting eleven to manage the tight schedule between international breaks.
Betis arrive with confidence after their European triumph, secured by an Isco penalty. Their form in the last five outings reads three wins, one draw and one defeat. The team now seeks to pick up league points again to stay in touch with the top spots, as they trail leaders Barcelona by eight points. The last meeting between the two at the Benito Villamarín ended in a 1-1 draw back in March. The match is scheduled for Sunday, 25 October at 16:15, with Celta's next fixture being a visit to Rayo Vallecano on Friday, 1 November.
