Betis Deportivo failed to end their poor run of form, drawing 1-1 at CP Mijas Las Lagunas in the eighth round of Segunda RFEF Group 4. Dani Fragoso's side have now gone three matches without a win, a result that sees them lose ground in the race for automatic promotion.
How the match unfolded
The first half was dominated by the hosts, with Álvaro de Pablo proving to be a key figure in the Betis Deportivo goal. The goalkeeper made several decisive saves and even the woodwork helped keep the score level before the break. The deadlock was broken in the 66th minute when Almagro beat De Pablo to put the local team ahead.
The green-and-white response was swift. Just four minutes later, Sosu was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Iván Corralejo stepped up and converted the penalty in the 70th minute to level the score. Despite pushing for a winner in the closing stages, Betis Deportivo could not create any more clear chances and the match ended all square.
Dani Fragoso, the reserve team's manager, analysed the game afterwards. "El Betis Deportivo no pudo regresar a la senda de la victoria en su segunda salida consecutiva y empató 1-1 ante el CP Mijas Las Lagunas," he said.
The league picture
With this point, the team now has 15 and remains in the playoff places, but sees the leaders, Recreativo de Huelva and Don Benito, pulling away. The side had started the campaign positively and even led the group temporarily, but this three-game winless streak has stalled their ambitions. The next fixture is of great importance, as they will host Recreativo de Huelva next Sunday, 1 November at 13:00. A win would be vital to get back into the fight at the top.
While the reserves battle in the fourth tier, the Real Betis Balompié first team sits fourth in La Liga with 19 points from nine games, having recorded six wins, one draw and two losses. They are eight points behind leaders Barcelona. In attack, the senior side has scored 16 goals and conceded 14. Their next assignment is a trip to face ninth-placed Celta Vigo this Saturday, 25 October. The senior side arrives with a run of three wins, one draw and one defeat in their last five competitive matches, a sequence that includes a 1-0 win over Feyenoord on 21 October with a penalty from Isco. For this match, the team will be without the injured J. Firpo, C. Hernandez and I. Losada.
