Former Real Betis president José León has passed away at the age of 91. León was president of the club for three different terms and was one of Manuel Ruiz de Lopera's most trusted advisors.

José León, a key figure in Real Betis history

José León was born on February 26, 1935, and joined Real Betis in the late 1960s. He entered the board of directors led by Julio de la Puerta and became president in February 1969. He was at the helm of the verdiblanca entity until July of that year, when he took over Real Betis José Núñez Naranjo.

A legacy in Real Betis

León returned to the club in 1989 and became president in 2006, after Manuel Ruiz de Lopera was criticized for his sporting and economic management. León was at the helm of the club until 2010, when the judicial administration and the change of hands with Luis Oliver motivated his departure.

León was known for being a very kind and close person in his treatment. When he left Real Betis at the end of 2010, he passed to a more private life and dedicated himself to his family and his businesses in Dos Hermanas.
