Real Betis Balompié has made official the transfer of Mateo to Arouca, after the academy player spent the previous season on loan at the Portuguese club. The transfer has been made without an initial cost, but Betis retains 50% of the player's future rights. Mateo, who has a contract with Betis until 2029, played 17 games with the first team in the 2024-25 season. Arouca has chosen to negotiate to keep the player born in Valencina de la Concepción, after his performance and professionalism impressed the club. Mateo's departure does not directly generate any profit for Betis, which expects to receive amounts for performance variables. Betis thanks Mateo for his professionalism during his time as a Betis player and wishes him the best of luck in his future. Mateo's transfer is similar to that of Dani Pérez, who left for Valladolid. Betis retains half of Mateo's rights, which means they could receive amounts if the player has a good performance at Arouca. The operation has been carried out after Mateo did not meet the conditions set out in the loan contract, which stated that he had to play at least 18 games for the obligatory purchase to be executed by Arouca. The transfer is a result of Mateo's injury, which prevented him from playing the required number of games. Betis is hopeful that Mateo will have a successful career at Arouca and that they will be able to receive the expected amounts for his performance.
