The book '95 Seasons of Real Betis Balompié in La Liga' was presented this Monday in Seville, a work by historian and fan Carlos Bellver that details the club's history match by match. Published by Samarcanda, the volume covers the green-and-white journey through La Liga, the Copa del Rey and UEFA competitions, offering a detailed trip from the early years to the present day.
The presentation event brought together a wide representation of the Betis family. Club president Ángel Haro and director of institutional relations Rafael Gordillo were present. Former presidents like Miguel Guillén and past executives such as Ángel Martín and Balbino de Bernardo, who worked alongside Bellver in earlier club eras, also attended. The event was inaugurated by Gemma Ramírez.
A journey through history
Carlos Bellver, who has lived in Madrid for many years, has followed the team across Spain and to major European venues. "It's the journey through Spain and Europe following the team of his loves," the author explained about his work. The book was launched in the lower area of the Paseo Marqués del Contadero, next to the Torre del Oro, and was hosted by Reyes Aguilar and Reyes Bellver, the latter the director of women's football at the Spanish FA.
The panel included Manolo Rodríguez, a patron of the Real Betis Foundation, researcher Alfonso del Castillo, journalist Mateo González, head of the Sports section of ABC Sevilla, and deputy mayor Manuel Alés. The presentation was broadcast live and remains available for viewing.
Context of a bright present
This look back at history comes at a sweet moment for Betis on the pitch. The team sits third in La Liga with 16 points, just five behind the leaders, after a season start with five wins, one draw and a single defeat. Their current run is five matches unbeaten, with four victories and a draw, the latest being the 1-1 at Deportivo La Coruña on September 20. This positive form is showed by their average time to score the first goal, which stands at 32 minutes, one of the fastest rates in the league.
The next challenge is a home match against Osasuna on October 11, a fixture for which Betis arrives with great confidence. The presentation of Bellver's book thus serves to connect a rich past with a present full of sporting ambition.
